There is a very famous quote by Paramahansa Yogananda " If you have a strong mind and plant it in a firm, you can change your destiny". This book elaborates it and explains how you can change your mind.
Subconscious And Conscious Mind
There are mainly two kinds of mind, one is conscious and the other one is subconscious. The conscious mind does all the works which need attention like delivering a speech, making a decision, listening, etc and your subconscious mind does work that needs less or no attention like pumping heart, blinking eyes, breathing, etc.

An iceberg is a piece of ice that floats into an ocean. The special thing about iceberg is that, though it is 70 - 100 meters above the ground that's only 10% of it remaining 90% is under the water. Similarly, our conscious mind is only 10 % and the remaining 90% is our subconscious mind. Our 95% of work is done by our subconscious mind. But don't worry we can control our subconscious mind by our conscious mind.
How to control your Subconscious mind?
Do you know that knowingly or unknowingly we all had controlled our subconscious mind, at least for once? Remember, in our schooldays when we start hating one subject then after a few days our marks also start decreasing in that particular subject, this is because the subconscious mind accepts it. Similarly, when we were learning to ride bikes, we have to concentrate on many things like the clutch, brake, gear, accelerator, speedometer but when we get used to it we do it even without giving any special attention because it is now transferred to our subconscious mind. We can transfer anything to our subconscious mind and we have already transferred millions of things such as eating, drinking, riding a bike, walking back home, etc.
So, in order to transfer anything to your subconscious mind what you have to do is to only repeat affirmations regularly and especially before going to bed, we can give any commands to our subconscious mind such as "I am strong", "I am peaceful", "I am happy", " I am pure", "I am lovely", etc, believe me, if you start saying it before going to bed like a lullaby, you will acquire that habit or personality. I have a living example of it and it is me myself, whenever I have to wake up early for some special reason like for praying Namaz or for completing my homework or for suhur I just repeat this like a lullaby, " I have to wake up at X a.m." and wonderfully I wake up automatically, even sometimes I look at the watch and what I see? The second-hand needle is also at 12.
Your Subconscious Mind Can Not Think
Your subconscious mind does not think, what you will tell it, it will accept it. Be sure , you do not give it a negative suggestion which we mostly give, we often say, "This is too difficult for me I can't do this", "This is very lengthy I just can't complete it today". Your mind is what your thoughts make of it. Think good and good follows, think evil and evil follows. You are what you think all day long.
Your subconscious mind cannot take a joke so if you are saying anything negative even as a joke, your subconscious mind will take it seriously. We often say to our friends just to have some empathy that I also don't like that subject or something else and what happens after some time we also start hating it and our good habit is now changed. We have to be very careful about what we are saying. Our words have a good or bad impression on others as well as on ourselves.
Remember, just as water takes the shape of the pipe it flows through, the life principle in you flows through you according to the nature of your thoughts
